The book depicts the effects of social and cultural changes in northern Thailand in the global economy on the lives and health of young Thai women who work for multinational factories at an industrial park. It throws light on the situation, whereby moving to the industrial park in the midst of the rapid development of a global capitalist industry, has resulted in an emerging risk of HIV. The cultural analysis of HIV risk, an approach taken in the book, is based on an interdisciplinary social science with a primary theoretical orientation towards medical anthropology. This book will be of interest to students and scholars of medical anthropology, public health and women’s studies.
